About The Role As a DevOps Engineer at DENIC eG, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the technical infrastructure that supports the .de domain registry. Your expertise will contribute to the development, automation, and operation of critical DNS and infrastructure services, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. This position requires a proactive approach to system management, with an emphasis on automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You will be part of a cross-functional, self-organized team that values collaboration, innovation, and agility. Your responsibilities will include managing Linux-based systems, implementing automation tools, and supporting the deployment and maintenance of DNS servers and related infrastructure. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, and Prometheus, while contributing to the stability and security of the German internet ecosystem. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with at least five years of relevant professional experience. A university degree or technical training in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred, but practical experience and demonstrated skills are more important. You should have in-depth knowledge of Linux system administration and a solid understanding of the entire technology stack, including virtualization, containers, networking, storage, and databases. Experience with automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Golang is essential. Familiarity with DNS, DNSSEC, and nameserver software like BIND, Knot, or NSD is highly desirable. Additionally, experience working in agile environments, particularly with Scrum methodologies, will be advantageous. Fluency in German and good command of English, both written and spoken, are required to communicate effectively within the team and with external partners. Responsibilities Manage and maintain Linux-based systems and infrastructure components to ensure stability, security, and high availability. Automate routine tasks and processes using tools such as SaltStack, Ansible, and scripting languages to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. Support the deployment, configuration, and monitoring of DNS servers, ensuring compliance with security standards and best practices. Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous integration and delivery of services. Monitor system performance and security metrics using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and ElasticSearch, and respond proactively to incidents. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, new feature deployments, and security enhancements. Participate in external training, conferences, and internal workshops to continuously expand your technical expertise and stay current with industry developments. Contribute to the documentation of systems, procedures, and best practices to support team knowledge sharing and onboarding.
