Description

Full JD DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer @ NearPeer πŸ“ Lahore | Full-time | On-site/Hybrid NearPeer is Pakistan's largest edtech platform β€” 7 million+ students prepping for MDCAT, CSS, ECAT, CA, FSc, and O/A Levels rely on us daily, including during live, time-critical exams where traffic spikes hard and fails loudly if the infrastructure isn't ready. Our stack is real production infrastructure across dozens of microservices and multiple databases β€” currently held together by a lean team with no dedicated DevOps hire. We're changing that. The real challenge: We don't need someone to just "keep the servers up." We need someone who can design for On-demand scalability with controlled cost β€” infrastructure that scales up automatically when a live exam hits peak concurrency, and scales back down the moment it's over. That means real autoscaling logic, not manual firefighting at 2 am. What you'll own: Scalability: build real-time scale-up / scale-down strategies for traffic that spikes hard around live exams, then drops off just as fast Security: harden servers, firewalls, and access controls across our entire fleet; close gaps before they become incidents Cost control: infrastructure that scales elastically without runaway cloud bills; cost is a design constraint, not an afterthought Core skills we're looking for: Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (or equivalent) for repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure, no more manual server setup Automation: scripting (Bash/Python/Ansible) to replace manual ops work with reliable, repeatable automation Container orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes, with a real understanding of autoscaling (HPA/cluster autoscaling), not just deployment YAML Linux administration: deep Ubuntu server experience, networking, firewalls, systemd, performance tuning Databases at scale: PostgreSQL (replication, connection pooling, query performance) and MongoDB (replica sets, replication lag) Caching & queues: Redis memory management, eviction policies, queue draining under load Load balancing & networking: Nginx, reverse proxies, CDN/edge configuration, upstream health checks CI/CD: building pipelines that ship safely and fast, with rollback built in Observability: monitoring, logging, and alerting (Prometheus/Grafana/Loki or equivalent). We need to see problems before students do Incident response: comfortable owning a live production incident end-to-end, then hardening the system so it can't happen twice You're a fit if you: Have real production experience, not just tutorials or personal projects Think in terms of systems and automation, not one-off manual fixes Have designed or operated infrastructure that scales elastically with real cost awareness Are fluent across the full stack: compute, network, database, cache, orchestration β€” not siloed into one layer Can independently investigate and resolve a live incident under pressure Why join: Real infrastructure, real scale, real ownership, not a ticket queue Broad exposure across the entire stack, from IaC to databases to orchestration Work directly with the CTO/Co Founder, no layers in between Immediate high-impact projects from day one
