Senior Java Engineer – Fixed Income Electronic Trading Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – 2 days onsite) Overview A leading global financial institution is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join its Fixed Income Electronic Trading technology organization. This team develops and enhances high-performance trading platforms supporting electronic execution, automation, and real-time market connectivity across fixed income products. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys building low-latency distributed systems, partnering directly with front-office trading teams, and delivering scalable technology solutions that support a fast-paced trading environment. You'll work closely with Trading, Product Management, Risk, Operations, and Engineering teams to build next-generation trading capabilities while modernizing existing platforms. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical Java applications supporting electronic fixed income trading. Build scalable, low-latency services capable of processing real-time market data and order flow. Partner with traders and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Drive architecture decisions across distributed systems and microservices. Develop APIs and messaging services that integrate with internal and external trading platforms. Improve application performance, resiliency, scalability, and operational stability. Participate in system design, code reviews, testing, and production support. Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices across the organization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technology initiatives from concept through production. Continuously evaluate new technologies and identify opportunities to improve platform capabilities. Required Qualifications 8+ years of professional Java development experience. Strong expertise with modern Java and multithreaded/concurrent programming. Experience developing high-performance, low-latency distributed applications. Hands-on experience with: Java Spring Boot REST APIs Microservices Messaging technologies SQL and NoSQL databases Caching technologies CI/CD pipelines Git Experience designing scalable software architectures. Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, and secure development. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience working within electronic trading or capital markets technology. Knowledge of Fixed Income products, including Repo, Securities Finance, or Rates trading. Familiarity with electronic trading workflows and market connectivity. Experience integrating with third-party trading platforms or market infrastructure. Understanding of real-time messaging frameworks and event-driven architectures. Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
