Employment Full-time Location Warsaw / Remote (EU) Work mode Remote-first / Hybrid in Warsaw Job Overview We are building the backend for a large distributed enterprise platform. The system processes critical data, integrates with multiple external systems and needs to stay reliable, secure, observable and maintainable in production. This is not a role for someone who only wants to close isolated tickets. We need an engineer who can design a component end-to-end, make technical decisions and take responsibility for the outcome. You will work on systems where backend engineering does not stop at endpoints. Reliability, scalability, observability, security, integrations, API quality and long-term maintainability matter every day. What You Will Build Backend components of a large enterprise platform. Java and Spring Boot services. APIs for internal and external system integrations. Authentication, authorization and access control mechanisms. Event-driven solutions based on Kafka or similar technologies. Data processing components designed for retries, timeouts, partial failures and resilience. Observability layer: logs, metrics, tracing, alerting and production diagnostics. Components designed for security, auditability and high availability. Responsibilities Design and develop backend services in Java. Build APIs with clear contracts, useful documentation and predictable behavior. Participate in architectural decisions around scalability, security and integrations. Design event-driven and asynchronous processing solutions. Improve system reliability through retries, circuit breakers, idempotency, monitoring and alerting. Optimize application performance and SQL queries. Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, Security and other engineering teams. Lead code reviews, mentor less experienced engineers and keep engineering quality high. Support production quality through incident analysis, root cause analysis and continuous improvements. Technology Stack Backend Java 17+, Spring Boot, REST API, Hibernate / JPA Architecture microservices, service-oriented architecture, DDD, event-driven systems Messaging Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar Security Keycloak, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, RBAC, secure API design Data PostgreSQL, SQL, relational databases, schema design DevOps Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitHub Actions / GitLab CI / Jenkins Observability OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / OpenSearch Cloud AWS, Azure or GCP are a plus Requirements At least 5 years of commercial backend development experience. Strong Java and Spring Boot skills. Experience designing REST APIs and service-oriented systems. Good SQL and relational database knowledge. Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD. Experience with messaging systems or event streaming. Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts. Ability to design code that can be maintained for years. Ownership mindset and willingness to influence the technical direction of the team. English suitable for daily work in an international environment. Nice to Have Keycloak, OAuth2, OIDC. Kubernetes and cloud-native development. Experience with high-availability systems. Knowledge of observability and incident management. Experience in enterprise or regulated environments.
