Job Title: Fullstack Engineer Location: Madison, WI (Onsite) Work Type: Fulltime Client: Denari Salary: $130,000 - $1,50,000/Year ABOUT THE COMPANY Denari is building the definitive software suite for public accounting firms — every piece of software these firms use outside of tax software and general business apps like Outlook and Excel. The company is born out of shared ownership with its first customer, a public accounting firm that served as both the origin and early proving ground for the product. Denari is fully self-funded with no outside investors and no plans to raise externally for the foreseeable future. The CRO and an investor both come from a $450M exit, bringing tangible go-to-market credibility to a small, lean team. Engineers report directly to Max, the lead engineer, and collaborate throughout the day in a virtual office with daily touchpoints to the product team. There is one formal recurring meeting per week: the weekly demo. In-person in Madison, WI. ABOUT THE ROLE Denari is looking for a full-stack engineer who leans backend, writes TypeScript as a first language, and can build a data-connected frontend in React without a designer holding their hand. This is a high-agency, high-ownership role where a new hire can realistically take full technical ownership of an entire product inside the suite. The engineering team is small and in heavy build mode — shipping every piece of software an accounting firm needs outside of tax. The engineer hired here will design data structures, build data-connected frontends, and establish patterns that the next engineers build on top of. Design sense is required. AI is a force multiplier, not a crutch. What You'll Own - Own meaningful surface area from day one — data structures, schemas, and full-stack features - Build data-connected frontends in React and TypeScript, front to back - Take products from concept to production with full technical ownership possible - Work directly with Max and the product team on architectural and product decisions - Establish engineering patterns and design quality for the next hires - Ramp expectations: shipping semi-frequently by month 1, owning a module by month 3, contributing across 2–3 modules by month Requirements Technical - Strong TypeScript proficiency — treated as a first language, not a JS migration - React proficiency is non-negotiable — capable front to back, leaning backend - Experience designing schemas and data structures that survive contact with reality - Non-trivial track record — something shipped and used by real people - Current on modern engineering tooling and the software engineering zeitgeist Execution and Ownership - High agency, works through ambiguity, does not wait for specs - Design sense — no designers on the team, engineers own the UI - Bias toward ownership, momentum, and open collaboration (no "greater-than-bow energy") - Came from a software business, not a bank IT department or legacy enterprise Location - Hybrid, Madison, WI — 3 days in-office per week, remote the rest of the week Nice-to-Have - Graduated before 2022 (exceptional newer grads welcome) - Startup or smaller-team background — high-agency signal - Open-source work, HN traction, or side projects deployed in the wild - Uses Cursor or Claude Code daily, but can debug a type error without AI hand-holding - Curiosity about dev tooling, compilers, or agent infrastructure Who Will Thrive Here - Takes genuine pride in the craft of software engineering, not just shipping tickets - Is energized by small-team, high-ownership environments and doesn't need a manager to unblock every decision - Has the rare combination of backend depth, React proficiency, and design sense - Wants to build the definitive software suite for an industry that has been underserved for decades REQUIREMENTS · 9 items • Strong TypeScript — treat it as a first language, not a JS migration • React proficiency (non-negotiable) — build front to back, leaning backend • Data-connected frontends — not just static UIs • Schema and data structure design experience • Non-trivial track record — something shipped and used by real people • Current on modern tooling and the software engineering zeitgeist • Design sense — no designers ever, engineers own the UI • Bias toward ownership, momentum, and open collaboration • Located in or willing to relocate to Madison, WI CANDIDATE SCORECARD · 9 criteria ' Strong TypeScript — treat it as a first language, not a JS migration ' React proficiency (non-negotiable) — build front to back, leaning backend ' Data-connected frontends — not just static UIs ' Schema and data structure design experience ' Non-trivial track record — something shipped and used by real people ' Current on modern tooling and the software engineering zeitgeist ' Design sense — no designers ever, engineers own the UI ' Bias toward ownership, momentum, and open collaboration ' Located in or willing to relocate to Madison, WI REQUIRED CANDIDATE Q&A · 3 questions Question 1 Are you able to be in office in Madison, WI?
