Description

About Powerus Powerus is building a next-generation American autonomous systems platform designed to move, protect, and sustain critical assets in high-consequence environments. The company combines advanced autonomy, manufacturing capability, operational expertise, and strategic acquisitions to support defense, national security, critical infrastructure, and commercial operations globally. Mission Our mission is to deliver resilient autonomous technologies that strengthen national security, improve operational safety, and expand the capabilities of organizations operating in complex environments. Why Join Powerus Powerus is scaling from a handful of aircraft to fleets, and the ground software, services, and data infrastructure behind them have to scale with it. The systems being designed now are the ones operators will depend on in the field. This role carries real design ownership. You will own components end to end and set the patterns that the next engineers follow. Position Overview Powerus is seeking a Software Developer II to own components of our ground control, mission management, and data services. You will design and build features from requirement through deployment, take responsibility for the reliability of what you own, and mentor engineers earlier in their careers. You will work closely with embedded, autonomy, and operations teams across the boundaries where the systems meet. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and own services and features across ground software and data infrastructure Take features from requirement and design through implementation, test, and deployment Own reliability, observability, and performance for the components in your remit Define interfaces between ground software and embedded or autonomy systems Review code and mentor engineers earlier in their careers Diagnose and resolve issues arising from field use and flight test Contribute to architectural decisions on the ground software stack Improve build, test, and deployment tooling for the team Qualifications Must be located in the United States, within commuting distance of Charlotte, NC Professional software development experience delivering and maintaining production systems Strong proficiency in one or more of Python, C++, Go, or TypeScript Experience designing APIs and services, not only consuming them Working knowledge of Linux, containers, and CI/CD practice Track record of owning a component through to production and supporting it there U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)); this role involves access to ITAR- and EAR-controlled technical data Preferred Qualifications Experience in robotics, aviation, defense, or another real-time or safety-relevant domain Familiarity with MAVLink, ROS, or comparable robotics middleware Experience with telemetry, time-series data, or large log processing Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop or simulation environments What We Look For We are looking for engineers who think about the operator. Ground software fails at the worst possible moment when it fails, and the people who do well here design for that rather than for the happy path. You should be able to disagree with a design decision constructively and then commit to it. Equal Opportunity Statement Powerus is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and mission-driven workforce. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
