Platform Engineer

Caspian One is partnering with a top‑tier financial institution on a major platform engineering initiative and is looking to hire experienced Senior Platform Engineers (Backend‑Focused) to support the evolution of its internal developer platform. This opportunity sits within a large, global engineering organisation, focused on improving developer experience, strengthening platform capabilities, and delivering scalable backend systems used by thousands of engineers across the bank. Role Responsibilities; Design and build backend services and APIs that underpin the internal developer platform Translate complex engineering problems into robust system designs and production‑ready code Contribute to platform components supporting hybrid on‑prem and cloud environments Improve reliability and observability across distributed systems Collaborate with SRE, DevOps and platform teams to enhance performance, scalability and engineering standards Provide technical leadership within a coding‑first, engineering‑led culture Key Experience Required; Strong hands‑on backend engineering in Java, Node.js or Python Proven experience building APIs and distributed systems at scale Solid understanding of HTTP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, gateways and service mesh Exposure to containers, Kubernetes and Docker Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry or similar observability tooling Ability to independently deliver system design, architectural decisions and end‑to‑end solutions Additional Context; Platform Engineering / SRE / DevOps exposure is beneficial, but this is a coding‑first role Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments is advantageous Strong communication skills and ability to operate within globally distributed teams Opportunity to influence engineering standards across a major organisation Location & Working Pattern; Sheffield‑based Hybrid model (approximately 3 days onsite) This is a high‑impact engineering opportunity within a substantial transformation programme, offering exposure to complex systems, large‑scale platforms and the chance to shape developer experience across a global organisation.
