Description
Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity The Company The energy industry is undergoing one of its biggest transformations in decades. We're partnering with a well-funded, early-stage climate technology company building software that sits at the heart of the transition towards a cleaner, more intelligent electricity grid. Rather than improving existing systems, they're building an entirely new platform from the ground up - combining real-time data, distributed hardware, AI, and energy trading to solve complex problems that have a genuine impact on the future of energy. Still a small engineering team, they're at the stage where every engineer has a meaningful influence on the product, technical direction, and success of the business. The Role - Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity You'll join a highly technical, product-focused engineering team building software that powers real-time operational and commercial decision making. This is a backend-first role (Python ≈70%) with exposure across the full stack, working on data-intensive systems where correctness, scalability and performance genuinely matter. You'll work across multiple product areas - from backend services and APIs through to customer-facing products, internal tooling and complex operational workflows. Expect plenty of ownership, ambiguity, and the opportunity to solve difficult engineering problems from first principles. What You'll Be Doing - Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity Building and owning backend services in Python Developing scalable APIs and data-heavy systems Designing products that process large volumes of real-time information Working closely with Product to deliver features end-to-end Contributing across the stack where required (TypeScript) Building software that interacts with physical devices and operational systems Improving reliability, performance and engineering standards as the platform scales This is a fast-moving Product Engineering environment where engineers are trusted to own problems rather than simply deliver tickets. Tech Stack - Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity Python TypeScript AWS PostgreSQL Modern API architecture Event-driven & distributed systems CI/CD What They're Looking For - Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity 2-6+ years of software engineering experience Strong backend engineering experience (Python preferred) Comfortable contributing across the full stack Experience building data-heavy or highly numerical products Product mindset with strong ownership Comfortable operating in startup environments Excellent problem-solving ability Strong communication and collaboration skills Nice to have: Experience within energy, trading or financial markets Billing or payments platform experience Maths, Physics or Engineering background Evidence of exceptional technical achievement or deep personal passion for building products This role will suit engineers who enjoy solving difficult business problems just as much as writing great code. Interview Process - Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity Introductory conversation Technical pairing session Product & systems design discussion Final conversation with the founders A collaborative interview process focused on real-world engineering rather than algorithm memorisation. Why Join - Product Engineer (Backend, Full Stack) | Python, TypeScript, AWS | Climate Tech x Energy Trading | Real-Time Systems, High Ownership, 0→1 Product Builds | London (Hybrid, 3 Days) | £80-105k + Equity Join an exceptionally early-stage business tackling genuine technical complexity Work on products involving real-time data, distributed systems and intelligent decision making High ownership from day one with direct access to founders Small, highly capable engineering team with no unnecessary hierarchy Opportunity to influence architecture, product and engineering culture Equity alongside a competitive salary Work on technology with meaningful climate impact If you're a product-minded software engineer who enjoys solving complex backend problems, thrives in startup environments, and wants to build systems where every decision has real-world impact, we'd love to hear from you. Apply with your CV and we'll be in touch if there's alignment.
