JOB DETAILS JOB TITLE: Software Engineer - Video Audiences Team - EXTEND JOB BAND: C JOB REF: 47181 CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full-time DEPARTMENT: Video Audiences Team - Chief Operating Group LOCATION: London (London Broadcasting House) – Hybrid* 1 day per week in the office PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £43,500– £54,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The team works a mostly flexible schedule – core hours are 10am – 4pm. We have one mandatory office day a week, which is currently Tuesdays but which may vary. Interview Process Stage 1 The selection process will consist of two stages: 1 x hour coding assessment designed to evaluate technical proficiency. Final Stage: A 1 x hour comprehensive interview comprising: A 15-minute technical presentation, and A 45-minute blended competency-based interview focused on values and behaviours and technial ability. As a software engineer, you will be playing a key role in executing the migration from our legacy framework to a new pan-BBC architecture. Your Key Responsibilities And Impact Work with project, product and technical leads to design software that meets complex product and business needs, creating implementable specifications and tasks at feature and component level. Enforce best practices in code quality, testing, and documentation using modern tools and frameworks (e.g. React). Participate in the team’s software development methodologies, such as pairing, code and documentation reviewing, and continuous delivery. Learn new technologies and keep informed of existing technologies. Essential Criteria YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Have a good understanding of TypeScript, CSS, React and Node.js. Experience with testing frameworks and utilities such as Mocha and Sinon. Experience with writing and maintaining robust production software in a fast-changing environment with rapid release cycles. Experience with building and maintaining infrastructure on cloud platforms and effective and resilient CI/CD pipelines. Experience in pair programming, TDD, and agile process. DESIRED Experience of developing on AWS. Experience in working with GraphQL and RESTful APIs. Out Of Hours/On Call engineer experience. Takes responsibility for delivering tasks to completion. Worked in a professional software development environment on several projects (including experience in testing, design and release).
