Backend Python Developer

We operate at the intersection of consumer technology, social networking, marketplaces and real-world logistics, and are building a scalable, multi-vertical sports-tech venture with a focus on long-term sustainability and global growth. The Opportunity: We are hiring a Backend Python Developer to join Playo's engineering team. You will build, scale, and maintain Python services, REST APIs, and data models. Roles and Responsibilities: Build scalable, secure, and maintainable backend applications using Python and Django. Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs for mobile, web, and internal use cases. Own backend features end to end: technical design, implementation, testing, deployment support, and documentation. Improve existing systems for performance, reliability, data consistency, and maintainability. Requirements: 2 years of relevant backend engineering experience, with strong hands-on experience in Python and Django. Proven experience building production-grade REST APIs; Django REST framework experience is preferred. Strong understanding of databases - MySQL & MongoDB, including schema design, indexing, transactions, and query optimisation. High ownership mindset, clear communication, and ability to work in a product-oriented startup environment. Good to Have: Hands-on experience with Docker, AWS or similar cloud services, and CI/CD workflows. Experience  with Redis, Celery, queues, caching, or asynchronous processing. Exposure to observability, monitoring, production troubleshooting, and performance tuning. Passion for sports and fitness. Excitement about working in a fast-paced startup environment.
