Staff Frontend Engineer (AI Platform) £100,000–£120,000 + Equity + Benefits Hybrid – London (Euston) | 3 days per week Help build the AI analyst for the energy transition! Modo Energy is building the information platform powering the global transition to net zero. Our customers rely on us to understand increasingly complex energy markets. We are AI-native and our tech stack is TypeScript, React, and Next.js in a modern monorepo architecture, designed to support rapid feature development and AI-assisted engineering workflows, to create an intelligent energy analyst capable of answering complex questions, surfacing insights and accelerating research. We’re looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer to lead the frontend architecture by taking ownership of the frontend platform, shaping how engineers (and increasingly AI) build products at Modo.. The Role Lead the frontend architecture across our React / Next.js platform. Design scalable component systems and reusable UI primitives. Build fast, responsive interfaces capable of handling complex datasets and AI-driven workflows. Define engineering standards, architectural patterns and frontend best practices. Work closely with Product and Design to create polished, intuitive user experiences. Help establish AI-assisted engineering workflows across the frontend team. Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the organisation. Tech Stack React • TypeScript • Next.js • Material UI • Jest • Playwright/Cypress • Docker • GitHub • CI/CD • Turborepo • Python You will have Significant commercial experience building production React and Next.js applications. Experience working with AI products, LLMs or AI-assisted engineering workflows. Monorepo experience (Turborepo or Yarn Workspaces). Led frontend architecture or acted as the technical lead on complex products. Created elegant, maintainable frontend systems with an eye for design, UX/UI, Figma. Experience with Material UI or similar component libraries. A passion for performance, developer experience and user experience. Worked in fast-moving start-up or scale-up environment. Nice to have Familiarity with Python or backend APIs. Experience working with data visualisation or data-heavy applications. Energy sector experience is a bonus, but absolutely not essential.
