Description
AI Engineer Intern - LLM Agents & Automation (Python) Remote | Duration: 6 Months | Start Date: 6 July 2026 | Commitment: ~20 hours per week | Eligibility: Students enrolled in a credit-bearing UK university placement | Application Deadline: Sunday 28 June 2026 | Unpaid (credit-bearing, contributing towards your degree) About the Opportunity NexCell Solutions is building AI agents and automation into a production-grade SaaS platform used by live clients. This internship is for students who want to build real, working AI systems: LLM-powered agents, tool-calling workflows, and automation pipelines that run in production, not notebook demos or coursework prototypes. You will work hands-on with the AI layer of a live product, from designing agent behaviour through to shipping it, with direct mentorship from NexCell's senior engineers. The work rewards genuine curiosity about how LLM systems are built and a bias towards building rather than theorising. What You Will Do Design, build, and test LLM-powered agents and multi-step automation workflows Implement tool-calling, function-calling, and structured outputs against real product use cases Build retrieval and context pipelines (RAG, embeddings, vector search) where they earn their place Develop and run evaluation loops to measure and improve agent reliability and output quality Apply prompt and context engineering to production behaviour, not toy examples Integrate AI features into a FastAPI backend powering live automations Take part in early architectural discussions on agent design, safety, and reliability Apply structured development practices focused on security, reliability, and user trust Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code Push production-quality work to GitHub as part of a real AI SaaS product Who This Is For Students who have actually built something with LLMs, agents, or automation, and can talk through how and why it works Students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree that includes a credit-bearing placement or internship module Hands-on builders who prototype, test, and iterate rather than only reading about AI Individuals curious about agentic systems, LLM orchestration, and applied AI in real products Those able to balance academic commitments with a structured part-time internship Reliable, disciplined contributors who communicate clearly and work well in written English on a remote team Preferred Background Currently studying Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Solid Python is essential. Genuine hands-on experience with LLMs is what we are looking for: building agents, automation pipelines, or AI-backed tools, whether through coursework, personal projects, or experiments. Familiarity with any of the following is a strong plus: LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI, or similar), agent or orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent), RAG and vector databases, prompt and context engineering, FastAPI, or Git and GitHub workflows. We care more about what you have built than which framework you used. Tech Stack Exposure Core: Python, FastAPI AI Layer: LLM integration, agents, tool-calling, automation controls, AI-generated insights Retrieval: embeddings, vector search, RAG pipelines Real-time: WebSockets for live AI-driven data streams Version Control: Git, GitHub How to Apply Submit your application by email to [email protected] with: Your CV with a cover letter A short paragraph (maximum 150 words): "Describe an AI agent, automation, or LLM project you have built. What did it do, and what was the hardest part to get working?" Applications missing any component will not be considered. Internship Details Duration: 6 months (July to December 2026) Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, flexible around academic commitments Location: Fully remote Compensation: Unpaid, credit-bearing internship including mentorship, certification, and professional reference upon completion Academic requirement: Must contribute toward a recognised UK university placement or internship module Extension: High-performing interns may be considered for a full-time role after completion About NexCell Solutions NexCell Solutions Ltd (London, UK) is a CRM and AI consultancy specialising in intelligent, privacy-first digital systems for real-world business environments. We design and build AI-powered platforms, automation systems, and SaaS products used by organisations across multiple industries. We value precision, reliability, and continuous learning. This internship is ideal for students who want to build real, applied AI systems from the ground up and gain genuine hands-on engineering experience.
