Description

Job description: Build features used by 26 million people What you build here doesn't stay in a development environment. It becomes part of the Capitec app, used by more than 26 million clients to pay, save, transact and manage their money every day.  We're rebuilding the frontend of one of South Africa's most widely used banking apps, and we're looking for an Intermediate Frontend Engineer who wants to be part of that exciting journey.  Why this role exists We're not looking for someone who simply wants to work through a list of tickets.  We're looking for an engineer who takes ownership. Someone who can pick up a requirement, understand the problem, work through an approach, build the solution and see it through to completion.  You'll join the team at an exciting point in the app's evolution. We're moving towards a more modern, maintainable architecture and towards full-stack engineering, giving you the opportunity to grow your skills while working alongside experienced engineers.  What you'll do Own features and requirements from understanding the problem through to delivery  Build and maintain React components and features that are clean, reusable and easy for other engineers to work with  Integrate frontend applications with backend services and APIs, and troubleshoot issues across the stack  Participate actively in code reviews, both contributing to and learning from the engineering standards around you  Contribute to the frontend rewrite and help shape a more modern, maintainable architecture  Work closely with engineers and stakeholders to deliver features that work well and stand the test of time  Why Capitec? Scale  The Capitec app is used by more than 26 million clients. Your work has the potential to reach people across South Africa every day.    A product people use every day  You'll be building technology that sits at the centre of how millions of people manage their money, from everyday payments and transactions to saving and managing their finances.    A high engineering standard  This is a large codebase with real technical challenges. You'll participate in code reviews, technical discussions and architectural decisions, with experienced engineers around you to learn from and challenge.    A team that's building for what's next  We're in the middle of a significant frontend rewrite and moving towards full-stack engineering. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to that change rather than simply maintaining what already exists.    Room to grow  You'll be encouraged to broaden your technical skills beyond the frontend, while working alongside senior engineers who can support your development.  What you can expect You'll work in a large codebase while we transition from the existing frontend to a more modern architecture  Because this is banking, security, reliability and quality are critical to everything we build  You'll be involved in technical discussions from the start, working alongside experienced engineers and contributing your ideas  You'll have the opportunity to expand your skills beyond frontend as the team moves towards full-stack engineering  What we're looking for 3 to 5 years of professional software development experience  Strong, hands-on ReactJS experience  Good knowledge of JavaScript and modern frontend development  Solid understanding of frontend architecture and component design  Experience integrating frontend applications with APIs and backend services  A track record of writing maintainable, testable code within a large codebase  Comfortable working with Git and participating in code reviews  The ability to take ownership of your work and see it through independently  A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field    Nice to have  Java or Spring experience  Ready to build something that matters? If you want to build technology used by millions of people, take ownership of what you create and grow alongside engineers who care about doing things well, we'd like to meet you.
