Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Headless Commerce)

Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Headless Commerce) for our client, an innovative AI company transforming the way professionals capture and organize information! This is a full-time, direct hire position offering a hybrid schedule in San Francisco. Position Overview Lead the evolution of its e-commerce platform by driving the migration from Shopify Liquid to a modern headless commerce architecture. Establish the technical foundation for a scalable, high-performance digital experience while partnering cross-functionally to support global growth initiatives. Own a business-critical platform, influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, and help define the future of AI-powered commerce. PERKS Competitive base salary up to $260k/yr DOE plus performance bonus and equity Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage + 401(k) with company match Unlimited PTO Profitable, rapidly growing AI company serving millions of users worldwide Responsibilities Lead the architecture and development of a headless Shopify platform using Hydrogen, Shopify Storefront API, and Contentful Drive the phased migration from Shopify Liquid while ensuring SEO integrity, performance optimization, and minimal business disruption Establish engineering best practices for CI/CD, code quality, observability, testing, accessibility, and performance Optimize Core Web Vitals and create scalable solutions for multi-region, multi-language, and high-traffic environments Partner closely with Marketing, SEO, Finance, Operations, and Product teams to translate business needs into technical solutions Evaluate and integrate third-party commerce platforms and services including search, analytics, marketing, and payment solutions Mentor junior engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement Qualifications 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with modern React frameworks such as Next.js, Remix, or Hydrogen Hands-on experience building headless commerce applications using Shopify Storefront API or comparable platforms Strong experience with Ruby (Rails or scripting) and Shopify ecosystem development Proven success delivering large-scale frontend or e-commerce platform migrations Experience optimizing Core Web Vitals and building highly performant web applications Knowledge of edge computing platforms such as Shopify Oxygen, Cloudflare Workers, Vercel Edge, or AWS Lambda@Edge Demonstrated experience leading projects and mentoring engineering teams TypeScript expertise and experience with Tailwind CSS & scalable design systems a plus Compensation & Benefits This full-time position offers an annual base salary up to $260k, commensurate with experience, in addition to performance bonus and equity.
