Senior Python Backend Engineer - AI Agents / FastAPI / FastMCP Fully Remote (UK based only), Contract Outside IR35 Build the infrastructure powering the next generation of AI agents. We're partnering with an innovative client at the forefront of agentic AI, developing the platform that enables organisations to build, orchestrate and deploy their own AI agents. Rather than creating a single AI application, you'll be building the backend systems, APIs and tooling that allow developers to create intelligent, production-ready agentic workflows at scale. This is an opportunity to work on genuinely cutting-edge technology alongside experienced engineers solving complex problems in AI infrastructure What you'll be doing Designing and building scalable backend services in Python. Developing high-performance APIs using FastAPI. Building and maintaining MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers using FastMCP Integrating LLMs with external tools, APIs and business systems. Designing clean, secure and scalable backend architectures. Working closely with AI engineers to enable intelligent agent workflows. Building production-ready services with reliability, performance and security in mind. What we're looking for 5-10 years' commercial software engineering experience. Strong commercial Python backend development experience. Proven experience building APIs with FastAPI. Experience working with FastMCP and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Strong understanding of asynchronous Python. Experience designing scalable distributed systems. Excellent knowledge of REST APIs and backend architecture. A passion for modern AI technologies and developer tooling.
