Description

My client are a Hedge Fund seeking a Senior Python Engineer for their Commodities business in London. The candidate must have worked within a commodities or energy trading environment as a developer. Principal Responsibilities Build advanced research infrastructure and tooling that supports and accelerates alpha generation and strategy development. Engineer real-time, event-driven platforms for signal generation, trading decisions, and execution. Architect, develop, and maintain critical systems and services supporting real-time data ingestion, retrieval, and distributed computation across both research and production environments. Take ownership of the reliability and day-to-day operation of the technology stack, ensuring system resilience, performance, and rapid identification and resolution of issues. Preferred Technical Skills Outstanding programming ability in both high- and low-level languages, particularly Python. Strong understanding of modern distributed computing technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, Ceph, MongoDB, and Kafka. Solid theoretical knowledge of numerical computing, online algorithms, data structures, networking, databases, and operating systems. Experience with quantitative research ecosystems and libraries such as NumPy, Polars, Scikit-learn, and PyTorch. Strong DevOps capabilities, including version control, automated testing, build systems, and software release processes. Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Preferred Experience A strong academic and professional foundation in computer science or engineering, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience. Energy Trading or Commodities trading experience Proven experience designing and building: Distributed computing systems. Low-latency, real-time event-driven architectures. Large-scale time-series data ingestion, storage, and processing platforms. Demonstrated ability to architect and deliver complex, large-scale software systems. Experience working with systematic futures trading strategies and infrastructure. Familiarity with CI/CD practices and software delivery within large, complex codebases. Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
